Details

Although a young Arboretum the site features over 330 thought-provoking memorials, nestled amongst more than 30,000 trees, which are growing rapidly into a unique living tribute.

Both native and specimen trees can be found around the Arboretum where the species selected are often symbolic representing the area of the Arboretum they are situated in or a nearby memorial. For example along ‘The Beat’, a tribute to all UK Police forces, a mixture of London Plane and Horse Chestnut trees have been planted, chosen due to their links with the Police. Chestnuts were chosen because the first truncheons were made from this extremely durable wood.

The memorials at the Arboretum are diverse in their nature, rich in symbolism and represent a broad population of society from military associations, charitable organisations, emergency services to fraternity groups and individuals. A detailed list of the memorials at the Arboretum can be found on the Arboretum’s website.

The Arboretum can be explored on foot or as part of a tour; land train, buggy and guided tours are available on a daily basis (subject to availability). Audio Guides for use during your visit can also be hired from the Remembrance Centre. Included within the price of the audio guide is access into the Arboretum’s exhibition, Landscapes of Life, which will help set the scene for your visit into the grounds, as well as access into the temporary exhibition gallery.
